Anxious to try out the new camera and lens I drug Micah out for a 5 minute quick session...

So, I've been dreaming of and salivating over the idea of getting a new camera for the longest time now. I had my heart set on upgrading to the Canon 5d, but when Canon announced the arrival of the new 40d with all it's cool bells and whistles, I just couldn't see myself waiting any longer! Today that blessed man in brown showed up in my driveway and I was so excited that had to fight the urge to run down the sidewalk and tackle the package right out of his hands. I must have thanked him like 5 times in the 20 seconds that he was here! Don't get me wrong, I still salivate over the idea of a new 5d, but I have an inkling that they'll be coming out with an updated version of the 5d soon so I didn't want to get one now and then be stuck with the antiquated version in a few months. And, this way, I got to check one more item off of my WANTED list, the 50 mm 1.4. YAY! What an awesome day it was!

The LCD is huge, the body is so big and sturdy and rugged feeling. I am just sooo excited!

Ok, and can I say that I love this lens? I do. Seriously. Great day today...

Braelyn Claire

Meet Braelyn Claire. She's the precious daughter of Brad + Crystal, the couple who were the lucky enough to have the police crash their maternity session a few months ago! She's a delightful little thing, and was actually pretty easy to shoot, although, if I'm being honest, newborn sessions are hardly ever easy. God bless Anne Geddes, she's gotta be one extremely patient chick.

Yes, I do them. And, yes, I know, it's not exactly a great creative outlet. But, I do love the challenge of shooting so many people so quickly. There's something about the high-stress fast pace, it's too fun!

Vista Kids

God is good. He is! I've said it before, but He has blessed me with so many great things in my life. One of the most wonderful blessings in our lives this past year is the Vista Community! For a very long time, Matt & I had been hoping to find a church where we could be free to be our true imperfect selves, be loved, worship, minister, and most of all, a church where we could teach our daughter about God's love. The Vista has been all of that to us and so much more. I leave the service each Sunday with my spirit refreshed and my faith renewed. There are so many awesome things about the Vista, and our kids program definitely is at the top of that list. I took these images for the church to use, and as I was taking them, I was blown away at what a great time worshiping these kids were having! (Wish my church had this when I was a kid!)

Nate + Kara

So, I'm really at a loss at where to begin describing Nate + Kara's wedding... which is weird for me, b/c I'm never at a loss for words! I guess it could be classified as your classic HUGE Giddings wedding, but it was really so much more than that. Yes, there were like 700 people there, and yes, they had 8 attendants each, and yes, 1/2 of the BBQ and beer in Lee County was consumed, but it was really so much more than that. With all the choas going on around them, Nate + Kara were cool and collected. After the ceremony and the formal pictures, we snuck off for a private session. Now, I've known Nate for a long time, and I was amazed at just how happy and butt-crazy in love he and Kara are. It made me wanna run home and kiss my husband!

The reception was gorgeous, and filled with all the fun traditions I know and love. The best, by far, is the Grand March...if you're not from a place that does the Grand March at a wedding, you are sooo missing out. It's basically just a big, crazy game of follow the leader with like a million people, which ends in everyone circling around the bride and groom as they have their first dance, waiting for the perfect opportunity to run up to them and give a big, crazy loud group hug.... wait, now that I describe it, it's actually pretty dang strange... but, still fun! To finish off the night, Nate + Kara left with a bang! Litterally. As the reached their car, a huge fireworks display lit up the night sky. It was a perfect end to an awesome day, and I am so lucky to have been a part of it.

These guys are a photographer's dream. Such a gorgeous, happy family makes my job really effortless! Tarran (the daughter) was especially super, she'd strike the pose before I could even tell her what to do. I'd open my mouth to give direction, but by the time I looked up she'd already be doing exactly what I was thinking if not something better! And little Cooper is just hilarious. That shot of him on the tree makes me smile...

I love materinty sessions. There is something about the expectant mother's glow, the proud glimmer in the new dad's eye, the perfectly round tummy, and the sense anticipation waiting for your little gift from God to finally arrive; it's like you can feel all the emotion radiating out of each image!

Meet Brad + Crystal, and baby-to-be, Braelyn. Crystal is a life-long friend of mine, and I was so flattered when she asked me to shoot these for her. We really got down to the wire, these were taken just about a week or so before she had little Braelyn Claire! This session was my craziest shooting adventure yet. There were police. Yes. Police. A first, and hopefully, last for me. Someone apparently thought we were doing something we were not supposed to be doing, and called the police. Very dramatic. But, fortunately, we were not doing anything illegal, and were sent on our merry way! Not the best kind of stress for a lady who is 8 months pregnant, but it makes for a good story!

My sweet little baby girl is not such a baby anymore! She turned one on July 8th, we celebrated with a ladybug birthday party at our house, lots of great food and tons of family. Thought I'd share some pics from her party, her cake was made by a client, January... if you're a dedicated blogstalker you've already seen her E-session pics... we were going to go with just a cookie cake from the mall, but when I found out that January could make super-cool cakes and that we could trade services, I jumped at the chance. I asked her for a ladybug cake, and I was so excited when she showed up with this in her hands! It was sooooo much better than I could have imagined!

We're finally back from our second summer vacation to South Padre (which was stinkin' awesome, by they way) so I thought I'd catch up on my posting and share these pics with you. My cousin Molly took the people shots for me, she's a great up and coming photographer from my hometown, Giddings. I'd post her info here if she had a blog... a hint, hint for you Mols! :)

Sweet little Hannah made her grand entrance on June 10th! Her newborn session was quite an experience... there was a lot of pee, and even some poop...right on Daddy! It was too funny! I hadn't laughed that hard in quite a while. I know I say it all the time, but I am so lucky to have this job. I am so impressed with Mandy & Garrett... they have an awesome spirit, and are those kind of people who I feel like I've known forever. I was super excited to make this announcement for them, and I'll post more from their session soon...

David, Hope & Aiden

In case you didn't know, David is my brother, and Hope is his awesome wife, and one of my dearest friends. Obviously that makes Aiden my nephew, and my favorite little boy in the world! We shot these in Giddings one afternoon, and we want to do more in Temple pretty soon... so keep a watch out for those!

My favorite is the 2nd one... except I have a problem with losing color when I post to Blogger, so it does not appear as vividly as it really is. Any Blogger pros have any tips for proper color management?

Lotsa super-cool new stuff coming from Amy Blackburn Photography this summer! The website is undergoing major surgery, we're getting a totally new design which will be much more user friendly and easier on the eyes. :) New prices are coming too, don't be scared, it's a good thing! There will be different sessions for you to choose from, and the sessions will include a print credit as part of the sitting fee... see... cool! New products are coming too! The site should be back from its complete overhaul at the beginning of July, so stay tuned for that!

I'm also working out the details on two new surprises that I can't wait to tell you about! Hopefully by the end of the week I can share that part of What's Happenin'...

January + Kyle

Tons of locations you see? Yep. Tons. Some that aren't even featured here! This was a great shoot. I had so much fun, and got to use bunches of my new ideas with these two. I think I say this about all my clients, but January and Kyle were awesome. This was seriously a marathon session, and did I hear any complaints? No. Even when it was 112 out and we were hiking like a mile back into Chalk Ridge, no complaints. Kyle carried my ladder and we all sweated and laughed and as a result I have so many favorites from this session that I couldn't even post them all here without it seeming like ridiculous excess. I guess if I had to pick, I'd say 1 & 2 are my faves, but I also love this last one w/ their dog, Luther. Something about that shot, their feet in bokeh, him in focus... looking all... you know...dogish. I like it. Thanks January & Kyle for everything. (Especially the mozzarella sticks!)

This maternity session was long overdue! We were rained out last weekend, and almost got rained out again on Sunday! Mandy is so ready for little Hannah to get here, it should be any day now. The thing about maternity pics is that you have a certain window of opportunity to work with, and if you miss it, there is no rescheduling! Mandy & Garret were just awesome. I was asking her to all of these crazy things, forgetting that she was pregnant, and was happy to do them all! I was sooo not that nice when I was a week away from delivering...if you had the pleasure of knowing me during that time, I apologize. :) I am looking forward to meeting Hannah in a week or two, and I am really looking forward to getting to spend more time with Mandy & Garrett, they are so great!

Memorial Day Reunion

Meet the Shockley's - and their extended family- my Dad built the Shockley's amazing home, and I was fortunate enough to be asked to take pictures for their family reunion this past weekend. It was too cool! Dinner was made out of the back of an authentic chuck wagon, and all the kids had the cutest cowboy hats and red bandanas. I have tons of great pictures, but my favorites are of the kids. They were so fun and each one such a big personality! I hadn't gotten to see or take any pictures of the house since before they moved in, and I was so impressed by how beautiful everything turned out. No matter how I try, I will never be able to capture with an image how spectacular it is, you'd really have to see it to believe it!

I got a sweet new lens last week, a 90mm Tamron f2.8 1:1 Macro. That's right. I said 1:1. dadadadada... I'm Lovin It! (Yes, that's the McDonalds theme song) Anyhoo, we were going to a party on Friday night & Micah was dressed in one of my favorite litte outfits, so I thought I'd practice a bit with the new lens. She is, by far, my favorite subject! And, I really like the way my concrete floors look... mental note- use concrete floors in pictures more often... Enjoy.

I've got a newsflash for ya! But, first, some background... my wonderful husband, Matt, has been working as an Assistant Sotftball coach at Belton High School for 3 years, and just recently the Head Coach announced that she would not be returning next year. We were kinda hoping she'd stick around for a couple more years so that Matt could gain a little extra experience and then maybe get her job when she finally did decide to go. But that didn't happen. Luckily, Matt is a really great coach, and gives his all to his job. (I'm not just saying that. Trust me, I'm the wife. I know. It's like I always say: We interrupt this marriage for Softball season...) But still, we weren't sure if it would really happen. So, after one nerve racking interview, and a few days of nail biting, Matt got the job! YAY! My husband is the new HEAD coach of the BHS Lady Tiger Softball team. I couldn't be more excited, I've been wanting to post this blog for a while now, but it was a secret. Thankfully, tomorrow the secret is out (check the Belton Journal) because I soo cannot keep my mouth shut!

The two J-Whits

Meet the Whitley girls, Jennifer & Jessica. They scheduled this session so they'd have some pics to give their mom, Denise, for Mother's Day - isn't that sweet? And, honestly, I had been wanting them to model for me for a while now, b/c they're so gorgeous! Scott & Denise must have some good genes!! Unfortunately, Jessica got a horrible allergic reaction/rash from one of the locations we went to, and they ended up having to tell Denise where they were... sucks, huh? But, by any means, we got some awesome shots of the two of them.

Jennifer, (UMHB tee) is super sweet and came up with a couple of the ideas for shots that we did. She definitely has the creative eye, and she was such a good sport, even when she got blue spray paint all over her arm! She was much more "into" the shoot than Jessica...

Jessica, (Belton tee) didn't exactly want to take pics that day, and she was the one who ended up with the allergic reaction - a week before prom! I felt sooo bad, but she too, was a great sport and was forgiving. My favorite pics of her are on the swings or doing handstands, she is so funny, and you could tell she was really being herself!! :) Look for her prom pics - Coming Soon!

This is my dazzling cousin, Tammy, and her precious daughter Lexi, and her dapper husband, Rob. What can I say? It is obvious that these pictures are the embodiment of love. It glows in every shot, you can't hide it. As you can tell, Tammy is expecting another little girl in a few months, which may be partly to blame for her radiance.

Tammy had asked me a while back to take some pics of Lexi while they were in Texas - she lives in Connecticut. I swear that a baby gets grumpy automatically when a photographer comes around, its like they can sense it. Needless to say, we were a little worried that we'd be able to capture the real, darling personality of a teething 9 month old who does not want to be photographed. So, instead of the big, formal 'session' we just snapped a couple while her Mom & Dad were entertaining her. Looks like I will have to try that method more often, because she is too cute!!!

As I was editing these pics, I was struck by just how beautiful she is! It is not only surface beauty, but she has an inner beauty that radiates from within. I am lucky to have such a great job that allows me to get to know so many great people- including Courtney and her mom. They are the sweetest people you could ever hope to meet. We had so much fun at her shoot on Saturday! It was another adventure with Amy, from alley ways to the Chinese Mansion (being there was a little surreal) these girls were ready for anything I threw their way. This is Justin. He's a senior from Cameron, and is big into 4H shooting stuff. (I am not pretending to know the technical terms...) I wanted to find some where a little rustic for his session, and I have a semi-relative (long story) who has a place out in Zabcikville (outside of Temple) so Justin & his mom, Lisa, met me and we headed over to the property together. I had never used this location before, but it has the coolest 180+ year old house on it and a broke-down shed and barn... so perfect... I have to say- Lisa and Justin get the Coolest Clients Ever Award!! To say we did not have ideal picture taking conditions would be an understatement. There was no sun, it was so, so windy, super cold, and the ground was basically just mud, but they never complained. They traipsed around this old crappy place with me and did pretty much whatever I asked. Lisa was a blessing. She could be counted on for a smile and laugh at any time! Justin has one of those super likeable personalities, and he obviously makes a great subject.

Easter Session

These are a few from Aiden, Rylee & Micah's Easter session. I had a terribly hard time choosing which ones of Aiden to post, I have so many great ones of him in that cute little outfit. I just wanna squeeze him! Rylee (in pink) is Aiden's cousin on the other side and she was in quite the mood that day. We had a hard time getting her into posing, but picking that flower seemed to distract her, so I snuck in a couple of shots while she was showing it to me. I love the one of her in the chair- that face sums it all up. And, then there's more of my Micah Brynn, check out this last one of her standing there looking over her shoulder at Aunt Hope (who is, by the way, the best baby-attention-getter of all time) it's my favorite.

So this is my first blog- lets call these shots a small compilation of my work. I have to sleep sometime people.
